Surrogates Gone Wild * Steve King

Drumbeats from Pam's House Blend gave us another example of a surrogate of a presidential candidate with diarrhea of the mouth. Iowa Republican congressman Steve King said that terrorists would be "dancing in the streets" if Democratic candidate Barack Obama were to win the presidency.

Rep. King based his prediction on Obama's pledge to pull troops out of Iraq, his Kenyan heritage and his middle name, Hussein.

"The radical Islamists, the al-Qaida ... would be dancing in the streets in greater numbers than they did on Sept. 11 because they would declare victory in this war on terror. His middle name does matter," King said. "It matters because they read a meaning into that."

King said his comments were not meant to demean Obama but to warn how an Obama presidency would look to the world.

Villagers, I assume that King is an educated man. You wonder how an educated man would continue these veiled assertions that Obama is a muslim. After all, the O-Man is a United States Senator, The Illinois senator, born in Hawaii to a white Kansas woman. He has attended the same Christian church for the past 20 years. He says that he is Christian. Yet, educated men like Rep. King continue to snipe at Obama. Why? Can it be more than racism?

In criticizing King, Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor said, "These comments have no place in our politics." He called on John McCain, the apparent Republican nominee, to "repudiate them like he has previous offensive comments from his supporters."

How many ways can Team Hillary and John McCain team up to sully Barack Obama? After awhile you begin to think that the two of them should be running mates.

  1. And what if he is Muslim? Being Muslim wouldn't make him any less of a viable candidate. Man, this nation's (perhaps world's) collective comprehension of culture -racial, regional, gender, age, and even religious - slays me.

If he were Muslim, and maybe because his name has Muslim meaning, members of Islam would celebrate...but that doesn't mean that he's weaker on foreign policy or terrorism.

I guess this Senator needs reminding Being Muslim doesn't equal being a terrorist or terrorist sympathizer.

    Geesh.

  2. Marvalus - I agree! I wish I had thought of this theme earlier. We've had other idiotic statements from surrogates in earlier months of this campaign...

DN Lee - America is not very open minded to non-Christian religions be it Islam, Morman or whatever...
