  1. The problem with this image is that it leaves one with the impression once again that now that Barack is president all of the issues created with slavery have been solved.

  3. Renee - Point taken. However, I'm confident that none of the folks that regularly visit this blog feel that Obama's election ended all of the issues of race in our nation. However, there is no doubt that our nation took a large step forward with his election. Up to us to continue the Movement towards a truly perfect union.

    Tafari and Shelia - Amen!

Kipsang - We live in original times!

  4. This is a powerful image that really stirred my soul. Do we have work to do? Yes, but this image should fuel us with a renewed motivation to keep working toward change. Beautiful!

I have to agree with you on the point that the regular readers of this blog know that we still have a lot of work to do.

  7. "Stony the road we trod, bitter the chastning rod...felt in the days when hope unborn had died. Yet with the steady beat, have not our weary feet come to the place for which our fathers sighed?"

First thing that came to mind when I saw this strip.

    Thanks for this Villager.

  8. Andre - I wonder how many of our young people know the 'Negro National Anthem'. It seems to be sung so rarely nowadays. I'm in a Black organization of IT professionals. We used to sing the song at annual banquets and such. Somewhere along the way that tradition has been lost...
