Is This Commercial Post-Racial, Racist or Just Plain Bizarre?

I need villagers to take a minute or so to watch the following television commercial from Red House Furniture.

I need your feedback ... it this commercial racist? post-racial? or simply brilliant marketing on the part of a small town entrepreneur?

  1. I don't think the commercial is racist, I think it is just plain stupid! I'm mad it is a real commercial...

  2. This commercial looks like it was made as a Community Service Project after they lost some kind of legal case.Did you noticed the limp handshake between the "White" woman and the African American Male.
The Red House must have been selling defective products to African Americans, or charging high interest rates to Minorities and that's why they say all the products are the same whether you are Back or Whyte.

  3. Sankofa has to be right. Something shady must of been happening.
It is just a really bad commercial.

  4. It was silly and it did seem like a "have-to-do-this" kinda thing. Very amateurish...but who knows what was going on locally to bring this about?
I don't think it racist or post-racial...just kinda ridiculous...

  5. This is a very stupid commercial. With the music, I thought I was watching Napoleon Dynamite, but knew I wasn't because I never laughed out loud. I wonder why they had them announce their color? Stupid is as stupid does.

  6. EV:

It's just a stupid commercial. I don't get the introduction of "race" being relevant to purchasing furniture, unless the retailer used questionable business practices.

Perhaps this was a compliance matter decided through some type of litigation.

If that were the case would a commercial persuade me to shop there? I don't think so.

  7. All I can really do is shrug at this one. I don't know where the Red House is but I caught southern accents. I kinda want to pat whoever did this commercial on the head, give them an A for effort and make sure they're only using the plastic scissors with the rounded tips.

  8. Regina - It's real. However, it is also small-townish. I imagine it's been seen more times on YouTube then in real-time by citizens of High Point, NC.

Sankofa - I did notice the limp handshake. Hard to believe that this would be result of a judge's decision...

Urban Queen, Shawn and Pam - I think I agree with y'all. It is simply a bad commercial that tried too hard to be funny...

Homeland Colors - ROTFLMAO re: plastic scissors with the rounded tips...

  9. Hotep Villager,

It strikes me as being an attempt at country style post racialism. But it is also very corny.

  12. No harm done with this marketing attempt. Regardless of the quality of the commercial, it succeeds in grabbing the viewers attention, while you are waiting for something crazy to happen.

  14. The mattress that was perfect for a white person did look sorta comfortable.

But, I do wonder about the size of the white sofa that was perfect for a Black person.

    ROTFLMAO @ Homeland Colors.
