Old School Friday: The Whispers

My two daughters recently saw this photo of me in my younger days on stage with The Whispers. My youngest daughter didn't know anything about them. The eldest daughter simply explained that they are "Old School". It seemed like a good time to play the Old School Friday music again on my blog!

Just sit back, close your eyes and allow The Whispers to take you on a musical high with this powerful song that any man would want to sing to his lady. I imagine that any lady would love to know that a brother had this song and thought in his heart as he thinks of her. This is ol' school brothers and sisters!

Old School Friday - 'Lady' (The Whispers)

Your life is blessed if you have a woman in your life to whom these lyrics are meaningful. Some of us have loved and lost ... and I'm convinced that this better than to have never loved at all. Enjoy the magical music of The Whispers!

Old School Friday * This Christmas

Are you in the full glow of the Christmas season yet? If not, we'll try to help you with a couple glorious versions of 'This Christmas'. The first is the original stylings of Donny Hathaway. The second is from one of my favorite old school groups, The Whispers.

The Whispers had a number of Christmas songs back in the day. This was always one of my favorites.

What is your favorite Christmas song?

Old School Friday: The Whispers

This blog has been MIA from the Old School Friday meme over the past few weeks. I'm not certain that I'm on-topic with this week's OSF theme. However, we are entering into the final week before Christmas and I wanted to share my favorite ol' school Christmas song. Do any of y'all remember hearing this song ... originally written and performed by Donny Hathaway ... when it was sung by The Whispers?

That's my favorite Christmas song. What's yours?

Tune In Tuesday: The Whispers

I have been blessed to have some wonderful women in my life. At the same time I have been cursed with an inability to maintain uplifting and mutually respectful relationships with them. In other words, I have screwed up most of my closest relationships ... never letting them grow into what God intended.

I'm now a grown-azzed man ... with three wonderful children ... two ex-wives. I now have a good relationship with the mother of my three children. The relationships are now child-centered versus being centered on the two of us.

All that being said ... tonight I felt a need to reflect on what has been and what may be again in the future. The words of The Whispers came to mind. I've had that special lady in my life before ... and listening to the mellow sounds of The Whispers ... I have hope that I may once again find that special Lady in my future.

Womanist Musings created a weekly meme today called Tune In Tuesday. She noted that our blogs often deal with serious issues and it might be nice to lighten the atmosphere every once in awhile. Music has the ability to trigger happy memories and much of our lives are marked by song. To that end each Tuesday this blog intends to offer a song and tell you about what it triggers for me and in return you are welcome to share any memories that you have associated with it.
