Wordless Wednesday: African American Governors

Over a thousand people have taken the oath of office as governor a state in America. Only three of them were African American.

  1. P.B.S. Pinchback (Louisiana, 1870-1872)
  2. Douglas Wilder (Virginia, 1990-1994)
  3. Deval Patrick (Massachusetts, 2006-Present)

David Paterson will become the fourth Black person in our nation's history to be the chief executive officer of their state. This is truly a remarkable accomplishment that should make all villagers proud!

Interesting article, I had no idea.

It's sad people can't get to take on high political roles because of their race. That's one area in which US could take a lesson from Canada , look at our Governor General (she's from Haiti) or our (former?) BC premier...

Anyway, thanks for having taught me something new today. Happy WW!

For me a skin color doesn't count I don't even see it. Even if the person had zebra stripes.

It's a shame that's such a small group. Hopefully our children will see a much larger photo array.

Happy WW! :D

Still making history. The world will open their eyes slowly and realize we aren't just music and movies.

Great to know, thanks for sharing. It seems that Obama has won the Mississipi primary, so that's one closer to adding one more name in your list. Happy WW.

Maybe we're finally shedding the color and looking at the person. I hate that it's so late in doing so.

Living in a multi-racial country, we have leaders of all colours to represent the different races.

And an interesting sight in Singapore, we have Muslim mosques, Indian temples and Chinese shrines built next to one another!

Great post and I am pleased for Mr. Patterson. A Black Gov. in my hometown? Wow is all I can say thought the circumstances were tacky.

This seems to be quite racist. They're only worth posting about because they're black? Open your eyes and realize that racism is NOT NOT NOT a white man's disease and I'm sick and tired of being discriminated against!
