Even the District Attorney admitted it was only because of massive public pressure that he moved when he did. The Electronic Village joins with ColorOfChange.org in efforts to keep the pressure on.
As the Mehserle case moves forward, we need to be ready to act to make sure the authorities do their job. It's also time to seek systemic changes that will increase accountability and transparency for police in California and across the country.
I encourage all villagers to sign on for the battle ahead.

I signed the petition, and people don't realize it but even as of yesterday people were still burning stores and protesting what happened to OSCAR GRANT.
Wayne, the sad thing is the media gives its own story, but ask the residents who live here, who have to walk through broken glass to get to their cars. Ask the folks about a corrupt Oakland Police department.
It is sad that it (as usual) takes a DEATH to let people take notice of the lack of training and sensitivity of the folks that were dedicated to protect and serve.
....SAD
Iriegal - My hope is that we don't fade away. Now that the light is on Oakland ... let's keep it shining until the city can clean itself up. I will be in the Bay Area during the first weekend in February. I hope that the weather stays nice! ...and I won't plan to walk around barefoot based on your info about broken glass (smile)...
Only because of massive protests.....the DA needs to be fired.
Mike - It appears from Iriegal's comment that there are many issues and problems in Oakland. The District Attorney is one of many problems that the city needs to address...
