Electronic Village Milestone: 700 Posts!

Recently, a reporter asked me if I would be willing to go to jail as a result of my work as a blogger. My answer was 'No'. I consider my blog to be a hobby at this point. I don't consider a hobby worthy of prison time.

So, you can imagine my surprise when I realized this weekend that our Electronic Village just passed the 700-post milestone. We began on this blogging journey about 550 days ago on January 13, 2007. Can a hobby survive the 700-post milestone?

We have talked about our blogging milestones in the past:
Sometimes it is difficult to keep up this blog. Part of my problem may be that I'm now operating two other blogs, BDPA in the News and BDPA Foundation. Also, I support a number of other blogging efforts to grow the influence of Black bloggers in the afrosphere via groups like The AfroSpear and a new Facebook group.

Villagers, you honor me by taking time from your day to read our blog, either in person or via RSS feed. I suspect that our blog is reaching a point where I need to make a decision about continuing the hobby or trying to take this to the next level.

I am very interested in hearing from villagers on what they would like to see from this blog.

What would you like to see more? What would you like to see less? What were your original reasons for becoming a villager?

This is an open thread for your comments, critique and suggestions. We want to improve this blog and we need your feedback to do so. What say u?

Congrats on your milestone! What do you consider the next level? I ask because I still feel so new and inexperinced as a blogger. Hey, I'm trying to get my Tech authority under 100K (@108K) and my rank up to 100 (@61). And yes, Sojourner's Place started out as a hobby that is now my passion.

I say, you take Electronic Village to the next level if the spirit moves you to do so:>)

I congratulate you on your milestone! Keep keepin' on, brotha!

This is where I feel as though I have my connection to the things that I may miss out on...you do an excellent job of encouraging and opening my eyes to things that I need to see...

As far as taking things to the next level, I can only see good coming from that...rise on!

Sojourner - You have done the most important thing ... you established goals for your blog that are specific, measurable. Only thing missing was the timeframe by which you wanted to get your Tech Authority up to 100...

DN Lee - Hmmm.... I gotta go look up pithy to see if I was just insulted or complimented (smile)! Anyhow, I appreciate your feedback. I'll try to keep the flow going for you over the coming weeks...

Raw Dawg - I'm going to include your blog post in my next Blog Safari...

Ms. Marvalus - Asante sana. Actually, it is your blog that helped me realize I need to step up my game. I love the fact you created your own meme ... and that you moved from blogger to your own domain. Those are steps I need to take at some point if I truly want to move this thing to the next level...

Do not overload yourself with too many blogs. Keep the ones you have a passion for and delegate to other folks updating the other blogs you started but are not your true calling. Keep up the great work.

Clement - Asante sana!

Cliff - Your point is well-taken about only sticking with blogs for which I have passion. I created the BDPA-In-The-News blog mostly to have a repository for mainstream media stories about BDPA. That should be one that can easily be co-moderated by other interesed BDPA bloggers (hint, hint) as the format for it is simple. My other blog (BDPA Foundation) is one that I need to probably tone back to it's original intent.

Anyhow, thanx for the tangible suggestion. You've given me much to consider...

Hello there Villager!!

Congratulations on reaching the BIG 700!! Wow! Is there ANY issue left to write about in the black community now?? *LOL*

You've covered it ALL!

I am a new blogger...and THAT 700 number seems astronomical!!

I don't even know what people are talking about when they mention Technorati. {sigh}

Yes, another rookie blogger.

Your work is inspiring others to KEEP on producing high quality writing! Thanks for your commitment!

Peace, blessings and DUNAMIS!

CLNMike & Ajuan - Asante sana for your support and kind words. I'll keep working to make this blog interesting...

Lisa - Technorati is a resource that many bloggers use for the metrics on links and such. You should take ownership of your blog on Technorati today if you haven't done so already...
