Old School Friday: Philly Sounds

The theme established for this week's Old School Friday meme is 'Philly Sounds'. This opened up a wide range of artists including Billy Paul, Blue Magic, Delfonics, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, Stylistics and The Intruders.

Brothers and sisters, you may want to put the children out of the room. This is sho' nuff Grown Folks Music!

Sideshow (Blue Magic)

Me & Mrs. Jones (Billy Paul)

Do any of you have memories of these songs when they were originally on the air back in the day? What say u?

Me & Mrs. Jones is my favorite. I used to sing this like I was getting paid at 9 years old. Don't ask me what he was talking about then, but I just knew I could blow better than Billy. LOL

BTW, I remember these songs playing on the radio, being sung at talent shows, and I still have a 45 of "Me & Mrs Jones."

Aw yea! Before I came over, I responded to your comment and said I hoped I'd be getting my "Sideshow" on. You didn't disappoint. Thanks Villager :)

Me and Mrs. Jones...oh yea, that song definitely brings back some memories. I won't put my people's business out there though. Ha!

Sorry again I couldn't be of more help on that request. I'm DH by the way :)

Of course you chose these songs because you have the best taste in music. These are two classics, and had I known Billy Paul was from Philly that certainly would have been my choice. My momma wore that song out Me and Mrs. Jones.

@ Shae:
Me too, I use to feel these songs as if I could relate to them at such a young age. They always said I had an old soul.

I can't view Sideshow so I'll have to search on my own.

Billy Paul's concert was wonderful. Good video choice and smooth lyrics. Thanks!

Shelia - I guess that James Blake, Venus Williams and Serena Williams are all Democratic super-delegates who needed to rush back from France to the USA so that they could cast their votes. I can't see any other reason that all of 'em got knocked out of the French Open in the past 24 hours (sigh)...

Shae-Shae - Now that you are older than 9-years old ... do u know what Billy Paul was singing about? (smile)...

Hagar's Daughter - What is the point in having a 45 in 2008? Do you have any equipment at your home to play the thing on?

Fresh Fab - Welcome to our village. I hope we give you reason to come back often...

Sojourner - I wonder if any of the young 'uns know what LP stands for? (smile)

All - Thank you very much for sharing yourvillage voice with us today. Have a great weekend ... and I hope you have more inner smiles as you reminesce about those wonderful things you used to do with Sideshow or Me & Mrs Jones in the background...
