John Edwards' Political Career Ends With Love Child by His Mistress Rielle Hunter

A number of villagers wanted John Edwards to be Obama's VP selection. Edwards was the last survivor of the Democratic primary process before it became a 2-person race. I remember being surprised that Edwards didn't jump into the fray during the Ohio, Texas, Pennsylvania or North Carolina primaries. It was rather late in the game that he made his endorsement of Obama.

I guess the reason for him becoming invisible in national politics since he pulled out was laid out for us by the National Enquirer. The tabloid newspaper claims that Edwards is the father of a baby from a woman other than his wife. Read the full media story here.

The unwed mother, Rielle Hunter, is living in a gated community a few miles from Edwards campaign headquarters. She worked with him on a 6-month contract back in late 2006. Charlotte Observer published the love-child's birth certificate where the entry for the father's name is blank.

Oddly enough, Edwards' campaign operative claims that he is the father of the child. Sounds like some kinky 3-way sex!?! The campaign operative, Andrew Young, is a married man. Hunter is living in a rental home provided by Eric Montross, former NBA player and an Edwards campaign donor, in the same gated-community that Young lives.

Edwards went to visit mother and child in a Los Angeles hotel last month. He didn't leave until 2:40 am. Now we learn that he is paying $15,000 per month in hush money.

I guess it is fair to say that John Edwards won't be Obama's attorney general as I predicted earlier this year!

Have you heard this ish in your local newspapers?

The LA Times has a gag order on the story so nope, nada in the local paper on this. Apparently, they feel the unwashed Angeleno masses can't separate the truth from scurrilous gossip.

I remember the rumor about this back in late January and then when he dropped out so abruptly, it definitely made me wonder if there was more to his sudden exit then there seemed. And now that he hasn't sued the pants off the Enquirer, well, I believe it. Such a shame that he'll probably not be even considered for Atty. General, but hey, you never know. After all, Thomas Jefferson had how many children with Sally Hemings? Then again, I guess it's a different time and place, right?

Los Angelista - I never heard the story until yesterday. I need to get better at reading stuff.

re: Jefferson & Hemings - They didn't have tabloids, paporrazi (sp?) or the Internet to contend with back in the day. No cameras allowed on the plantation...

thinking back... edwards did "pull out" abruptly back in january after only a few primaries (he could've contended on Super Tuesday and he hadn't gotten to north carolina, yet).

well, it is what it is, i doubt his lack of availability will be a big deal to the Obama administration. and he's chased enough ambulances to cover chemo treatments for his wife, private school and trust funds for the legitimate kids, and "hush money" for the mother of his bastard.

no wonder he wasn't being vetted for veep!

I need more details, how are you going to run for President with this in your history. This day and age, nothing is a secret. I need more confirming details before I make my opinion, and start calling him "jesse jackson, II"

Mrs. Grapevine - It appears that the facts are coming out fast. There isn't much of a reason for a married man to be in a hotel room until 2:40 AM unless you are watching baby's mama do the early morning breast feeding. As Plez noted ... Edwards pulled out quick and he hasn't been heard from (other than the endorsement) since he left the race. Anyhow, I thought that villagers might want to know...

Plez - I agree. He appears to have some deep-pocket friends. I remember Eric Montross. Big slow guy ...but, he earned major bucks in the NBA...

I think the story broke about a week or so ago - online at least. Although I do not always agree with Elizabeth Edwards position on things, this is truly sad to see her have this on her plate as she battles cancer.

Ruth - I agree with you that Elizabeth Edwards and her children are the ones that will suffer by this news going public...

I remember watching the news break out on Fox when it happened, he had to be escorted out of the hotel by security to get by the camera men, and come to find out it was the security gaurd who dropped dime on him, but since it was Fox I took it with a grain of salt.

I read about this the week before last, but not many news sources were picking it up. I was wondering what happened to the story, because everything went so silent.

Such a shame. I really like Edwards politics and I was hoping to see him as VP or high up in Obama's Administration.

Another new one for me. Elizabeth and his girls are the ones that will suffer the most.

What is wrong with politicians keeping in their pants and in their marital beds, damn.

You know this stuff happens too much to be a coincidence. You know back in the 60s GM hired a woman to come on to Nader in a grocery store, came out in a congressional hearing and GM admitted trailing and the woman. This was when we was first going after the auto industry.

Stay strong men. It ain't worth it!

Mike - I never heard about the story until this weekend. While channel-surfing I saw it on Fox news. It didn't take much to see the story fleshed out by National Enquirer ... and it fits the narrative of Edwards pulling out so quickly in Jan 2008.

Anali - I wanted Edwards to be Obama's attorney general (if Obama gets elected). I don't think it will happen now. Bad for the Democrats as both John & Elizabeth Edwards were assets...

Danielle - The flesh is weak....

I read this story some time last week on a blog. It is sad but not surprising in today's society.
I was one of those who wanted an edwards/obama ticket! I guess things worked out for some...

Repeating a story from the National Enquirer? Really? Is the story so urgent you couldn't wait to get something substantial?

Regina - Yeah, I think that John Edwards no longer has a political career.

Mark Stoneman - National Enquirer broke the story last year. I didn't hear about it until this past weekend. I thought that many of my blog readers may have been equally in the dark about the allegations. It does explain why Edwards is nowhere to be seen in the national political landscape after his abrupt withdrawl from the POTUS race back in Jan 2008...

I remember when this story first broke and I purposefully ignored it, but I do believe that his political career is now over. I guess he can kiss the AG spot goodbye. It's a shame that his career had to end like this. I guess he forgot about practicing safe sex. It is a sad turn of events, but it's nothing new.

Janet - He forgot about practicing a life free of adultery before he forgot the condom (smile). Too many of us succumb to adultery ... however, few of us do it while running for POTUS! Even Bill waited until he got into the Oval Office (smile again)...

All - I see that he admits the affair, however, he doesn't admit to sending her any money or being the father...
