Taser Autopsy: No Drugs or Alcohol in Roger Anthony Before Pre-Judicial Electrocution

The police often try to blame their pre-judicial electrocutions on the victim being a criminal or a drug addict or a drunk. None of those things held true for 62-year old Roger Anthony when he was pumped with 50,000 volts of electricity from Scotland Neck (NC) police officer John Turner. Officer Turner didn't appreciate being ignored by an old guy on a bicycle ... so he took out his taser gun and killed Mr. Anthony.

Roger Anthony died last November after Scotland Neck police got a call about a drunk man falling from his bicycle. The officer said he called out to the 62-year-old man, turned on his lights and siren and tried to get him to stop.

The police officer thought that Turner was drunk. Anthony's toxicology tests came back clean. He had no alcohol or drugs in his system.

Methinks that a lawsuit is coming up next if the prosecutor doesn't take criminal action against Officer Turner. What say u?

Taser Death: Roger Anthony (Scotland Neck, NC)

It happened again! This time a rookie cop with about a month on the job decided that it didn't have the training to handle a 61-year old UNARMED Black man riding his bike without electrocuting him with a taser gun.

The 61-year old man, Roger Anthony, was riding his bike on Monday, November 21st. Someone called '911' to report that he was drunk. The police responded with Officer John Turner. He found Mr. Anthony riding the bike and followed him in his patrol car, briefly put on his sirens and lights and yelled out of the window for him to stop, but Anthony continued to ride away.

Turner then saw Anthony take something out his pocket and put it into his mouth. At that time, Turner got out of the car and yelled for Anthony to stop. When Mr. Anthony didn't stop, the officer pumped him with 50,000 volts of electricity from his taser gun, causing him to fall off of his bike.

Anthony was transported to Pitt County Memorial Hospital, where he was declared brain dead, his sister Gladys Freeman said. He was taken off of life support on Tuesday.

Freeman said her brother was disabled, suffered from seizures and had trouble hearing. She said he was riding his bike home from her house on Sunday night. Anthony lived alone in an independent living community.

Turner, who has been on the force for just over a month, has been placed on administrative leave.

Scotland Neck Mayor James Mills is calling for the State Bureau of Investigation to look into what happened.
"The best we've been able to determine is that he offered no threat," Mills said.
Milton Freeman said Anthony, his brother-in-law, used to smoke cigarettes, drink coffee and ride his bicycle around town. Anthony was nicknamed "Rabbit" because of his big ears.
"Why would you (use a stun gun on) a man on a bike? He didn’t do any crime. He wasn’t trying to escape. How (was) he going to escape on his bicycle?" Milton Freeman said.

Missing or Murdered Sisters (MOMS)

Village drumbeats from Symphony led us to the Missing or Murdered Sisters (MOMS) crew down in North Carolina. MOMS is a grassroots organization that brings attention to missing and murdered Black women.

They recently paid for a billboard in Rocky Mount, NC to focus attention on the plight of nine Black women. Over the past four years 5 black women have been found dead, one is still unidentified. Three other woman are missing.

Lamar Advertising gave the community group a significant discount on the billboards. The signs will stay up for at least a month. Supporters said they hope to raise more money to keep them up longer, if needed.

“We’re just trying to raise the public’s awareness about what’s been going on,” Wiggins said. “These women are all someone’s daughter or someone’s sister, and we need the community to rally together to help bring this to an end.”
VILLAGER'S VIEW: This group, MOMS, is providing all of us with a powerful example. If we see a problem ... take action. Do what you can do with what you have to make a difference. I wonder if we are willing to learn from their example?

What say u?

Police, Tasers and Another Dead Black man

Drumbeats from Tasered While Black Blog inform us that another Black man is dead after being confronted by a police officer using a taser, followed by a gun. It didn't take long for the local media to demonize and place the blame on Terrance Kennedy for his own death.

Some of the bystanders, who were still outside the home Saturday afternoon, said officers first used pepper spray on Kennedy, then deployed a taser. Some witness statements indicate that they saw an officer hit Kennedy with a police baton, and they heard one officer tell the other, “shoot him,” before he was shot.

We will follow this story to see how it turns out. All I know is that serving a warrant should not result in death penalty.

Barack Obama's North Carolina Victory Speech

I watched the election results as they rolled in last night in both North Carolina and Indiana. It was a beautiful thing to behold. I think it is wonderful to know that African American voters will be the major reason for Clinton's defeat. Team Clinton dismissed African Americans as inconsequential. They simply gave up on our community much as Republicans have done in the past. As a result, she didn't get over 7% of the African American vote in either Indiana or North Carolina.

Obama's victory speech in North Carolina demonstrated that he found his voice again. I especially enjoyed the soulful manner in which he shared his love for his country. People questioned his patriotism ... and he answered in a powerful manner. If you have not seen his North Carolina victory speech ... take a moment to check it out.

Sounds like an acceptance speech, huh?
