Sunday Inspirations: Heaven Waits For Me (Chandra Currelley-Young)

Chandra Currelley
I guess I should start by saying that I'm not a big fan of Tyler Perry. I admire his entrepreneurial ability ... but, his movies often appear to be unnecessarily harsh against the image of African American men. I've never gone to a Tyler Perry play in my life and I've only attended his movies when others in my life suggested it. Earlier today my younger daughter suggested that the two of us go see Perry's current movie, 'Big Happy Family'.

I took her up on the offer.

The movie had scenes that were funny and other scenes that were tragic and brought a tear to your eye. I can't say that I would recommend the movie to others.

However, the most memorable moment of the film to me was Chandra Currelley-Young. She sang the following song towards the end of the movie and it blew me away.

It is Mother's Day today. I thought of my mother as this song was being played. Anyhow, the song inspired me today. I hope you enjoyed it as well.

This blog will continue to seek out Sunday Inspirations, a meme inspired by Sojourner's Place. Sunday Inspirations is just one way to help get us through the week ahead, the trials we may face, and yes, to say 'Thank You Jesus' and testify! I invite you to participate in this weekly meme as your contribution might serve as an inspiration to someone in need.

Tune In Tuesday: I Can Do Bad All By Myself

I usually tell folks that I'm not a big Tyler Perry fan. However, I watched a Tyler Perry production over the past weekend with my oldest daughter. It is the 3rd time that I've seen a Tyler Perry production ... and I must admit that I thoroughly enjoyed each one. The current movie, 'I Can Do Bad All By Myself' brought me to tears on a couple of different occassions. I guess that I will officially change my tune today ... I'm a Tyler Perry fan now!

Have you seen this flick yet?

Womanist Musings created a weekly meme today called Tune In Tuesday. She noted that our blogs often deal with serious issues and it might be nice to lighten the atmosphere every once in awhile. Music has the ability to trigger happy memories and much of our lives are marked by song. To that end each Tuesday this blog intends to offer a song and tell you about what it triggers for me and in return you are welcome to share any memories that you have associated with it.

Why Did I Get Married?

I know that Villagers tend to rely on the Invisible Woman for tips on Black cinema ... and I recognize that I have never seen a single play, movie, book, television show or schoolyard skit written by Tyler Perry in my life. However, I encourage all villagers to run, not walk to the theatre to see the Tyler Perry flick called 'Why Did I Get Married?'.

Any nubian that is ... or has ever been ... married needs to see this movie and buy the DVD when it comes out for your home collection. Dayum, this was a good movie.

Have you seen it? What did you think?
