Mes Deux Cents beat the drums to let us know that we were being hoodwinked and bamboozled with blogs masquerading as being run by people of African descent. One or more of the fake-Black blogs are owned by David Hauslaib. It turns out that Hauslaib is the owner/publisher for Stereohyped. I have to believe that he was laughing up a storm when his blog one the 2007 Black Weblog Award as the 'Best New Blog' of the year.
The Boston Globe outed Stereohyped as white-owned in this article. I wonder if there are any other white-owned blogs winning Black Weblog Awards or being listed on our Black Blog Rankings?

my goodness...the ink hasn't even dried on the "8" in 2008 yet, and mess is already hitting from the fan!
bring it on Villager...what recourse do we have?
Hi Villager,
Thanks for keeping us informed. It is interesting to note that my blog was on the list last year but seem to have missed this month's ranking.

Do you have any idea how that could have happened?
I've enjoyed your blog for 07 and am even more excited about it for 08.
Let the naysayers go on with themselves because whatever is done in the dark will always come to light. Meanwhile, the truth is constant.
Hoodwinked and bamboozled is a stretch, isn't it? The fact that Stereohyped has a publisher is very apparent if you visit the site and check out the side menu, where Hauslaib's name is clearly listed. Also, the Boston Globe did not "out" anyone (nor are you or Mes Deux Cents). When Stereohyped launched in April '07, there was a very widespread and public press release about it, signed by David. I'm the editor of Stereohyped, and I do absolutely everything that ends up on the blog. And when the site won a Black Weblog award, I guess my publisher was too busy congratulating me for a job well done to be laughing. It was very nice moment for me, career-wise, to see that my hard work (as a black writer editing a blog for black people) had been recognized.
Bria - I don't have an issue with Mr. Hauslaib owning a blog that caters to an African American audience. That happens all the time in real life (ex: Viacom owns Black Entertainment Television). Also, I'm not aware of the rules for the 2007 Black Weblog Awards. Perhaps there is no requirement that the blog be Black-owned. However, the Villager's Black Blog Rankings has only the single requirement --- the blog must be owned/operated by a person of African descent. David Hauslaib doesn't qualify ... Stereohyped doesn't qualify. Therefore both have been removed from the BBR. Stereohyped had been an Honorable Mention due to their BBR #24 ranking this month. As Kevin points out ... they have been removed.
Does anyone know if BOSSIP.COM is also owned by David Hauslaib?
Kevin - Your blog, InterviewTeacher.com is BBR #370 (out of 611).
Blu Jewel - Thank you for your support. The truth will set you free! You didn't ask, but, your blog is BBR #327 right now.
Lauren - I'm simply a brother with a family operating a blog as a volunteer hobby. Therefore, I appreciate it very much when villagers help me when they see something wrong. Your blog (Stereohyped) is very well written and you are worthy of praise ... and the salary that you receive. No doubt. Your blog is not Black-owned. I mistakenly thought it was due to the Black Weblog Award. As such, I've been tracking your blog on the Villager's BBR for the past 4-5 months. Yesterday, I learned that I was wrong. I corrected the error.
Again, I don't denigrate you or your talents. I simply don't want my readers or others in the afrosphere to be fooled into thinking that Stereohyped is Black-owed anymore than Essence Magazine, BET or the Harlem Globetrotters!
You can probably help me clarify something else if you have time or inclination --> is Bossip.com also owned by Mr. Hauslaib?
Anyhow, I wish you a wonderful 2008 for you and yours.
Hi Villager,
I forgot to ask you about my blog rating?
Once again, thanks for all of your hard work!
Bossip isn't owned by David Hauslaib
roflcopter
Anon - Thank you for the clarification on Bossip.com. We welcome them to the BBR #3 slot in this month's rankings.
Woozie - ROFL = rolling on the floor laughing. I didn't understand the COPTER portion of your comment until I realized it was a link to a graphic. Cute!
Mes Deux Cents - your blog is BBR #193 (out of 611)
I'm not sure soul-sides.com qualifies either.
It's one of my favorite blogs, but it's clearly owned/operated by Oliver Wang, who is Asian American.
Asha Vere - Thank you for the 411 on SoulSides. It turns out that SoulSides is not owned by a person of African descenter. As such, the blog will be removed from the Black Blog Rankings
Very interesting... I think that maybe instead of only focusing on what the blog posts about, people need to take into consideration who is blogging. Although, I'm black, I post about all kinds of things not just issues of race.
Anali - My hope is that the Black Blog Rankings will bring more awareness to talented bloggers of African descent from all over the diaspora. For example, I wasn't aware of your blog until today. I enjoyed the flow of your blog as I visited it earlier today.
For what it's worth, you are BBR #110 (out of 635)
based on the link trail i just followed that wasn't exactly top secret info. it is fully disclosed who the sites belong to and their jossip affiliation.
Damaa - You're right. I'm not the brightest bulb in the chandelier ... so it took me awhile to figure it out! Anyhow, I hope you find reasons to visit with us more often in the future...
