Old School Friday: Jackson 5

The theme for this week's Old School Friday is 'Kid Groups'. At the end of the day, there can only be one. Every other kid group in America is simply a poor shadow of the original kid group that swept into every American home back in the early 1970s ... The Jackson 5.

Take a moment and enjoy this medley of songs from the original Jackson 5 ... Jermaine, Tito, Marlon, Jackie and Michael:

I used to watch the Saturday morning cartoon. The movie 'Willard' was my favorite for many years because of the song, Ben. My afro was long. I was a fan of The Jackson 5 for much of my youth. How about you? What is your favorite memory of this remarkable kid group?

Whew! Them Jackson boys sure could do it! It is still amazing to me to watch Michael sing and dance when he was so young...all that talent!

Excellent pick, Villager!

It always amazes me how much Michael was changed since then. And at such a young age, he sang with so much soul. I wonder what kinda of man and artist he would have been if Joe wasn't such an abusive tyrant. Great pick!

I watched the cartoon as well. My brohers and I would also get out my mother's afro wigs and pretend that we were the Jackson 3. My older brother always wanted to be the younger Michael.

One more thing...in school during art we would always draw these figures with big afros and high heeeled stacks. :)

I loved the Jackson 5! Me and my cousins used to get toys and make believe they were instruments and we would do our thing! You couldn't tell us we weren't bad!!

Whenever I hear them I can't help but thin, "I wonder what would have happened if they'd stayed together just a little longer," or if Michael were a bit more secure with himself? Who knows? The will forever go down in history as a great talent though.

When it comes to kid groups you can't go wrong with the Jackson 5.

Happy OSF, Villager.

@iventbyblogging,
I planned to marry Marlon someday -LOL!

Marvalus - Asante sana. I haven't made my rounds to other OSF posts yet. I'll do so before midnight!

Kim - On the other hand, if Papa Jackson wasn't such an abusive tyrant ... then the world would never have heard of the Jackson 5 in the first place...

Stephen - Yeah, I had a pair of those platforms at some point in my youth. That was a fad that I'm very glad went away quickly!

Vivrant Thang - Asante sana!

Regina - We all used to think that we could be like the Jackson 5. I need to show my middle daughter this video with Randy Jackson in it. She thought I was out of my mind when I told her that Randy Jackson on 'American Idol' wasn't the original one (smile)...

I Vent by Blogging - It seems that Marlon is the only one that didn't make a fool of himself as he got older. I wonder what he is doing nowadays?

Shae-Shae - Oddly enough, I thought Michael did the right thing by going solo. He was the truly talent in the group...

Hagar's Daughter - I imagine I will see a number of the OSF posts this week with either J5 or New Edition (smile)...

Gotta add my voice to the choir. The Jackson 5 is the ultimate Kid Group.

It is so unfortunate that they had to develop their talent under the family abuse they had to endure.

Cuz, their talent is crazy.

Great work on the article for the Am I not Human E-Book.

As always...

When the J-5 were just starting out, my cousin rushed up on stage and gave little Michael Jackson a kiss...he hasn't been the same since! Happy OSF!

I opted for 2other kid groups. Drop by when you get a chance for a real surprise!

Hotep Villager!
Happy Friday to you.

The Jackson 5 knew that they could throw a tune down!

I selected The Five Stairsteps. Another family of singing folks.

Stop by and check them out!

Have a great weekend!

Hopefully we won't get blown away by any more bad weather :-)!

Ben is one of my favorites, also. I'm a sucker for slow songs, and this one the most heartfelt songs by a kid.

AHH!! The Jackson 5! I love this clip. The little man sounds like a divine soul oozes through him always!

Thank you for sharing and making me CHEESE GRIN!

Villager, the J5 were definitely the originators. A whole bunch of us grew up listening to them, watching their show on tv, or laughing at their imitators. Good choice.
