Why Did I Get Married?
I know that Villagers tend to rely on the Invisible Woman for tips on Black cinema ... and I recognize that I have never seen a single play, movie, book, television show or schoolyard skit written by Tyler Perry in my life. However, I encourage all villagers to run, not walk to the theatre to see the Tyler Perry flick called 'Why Did I Get Married?'.
Any nubian that is ... or has ever been ... married needs to see this movie and buy the DVD when it comes out for your home collection. Dayum, this was a good movie.
Have you seen it? What did you think?

i've heard nothing but raves and that's great news. i don't always love tyler's stuff, but i think it's important to support him. he basically is running his own studio. that's impressive.
JJ - Yeah, he has taken the Spike Lee approach to a new level.
Rarely go to movies but this one premiered at numbah ONE! Isn't that lovely news for diversity in Hollywood? I might have to see this in theater.
Janice - As a married person ... you will thoroughly enjoy the movie. I highly encourage it for you & Mr.JaniceNW!
Wayne,
It is our plan to watch it in the next two weeks. Jerry and I will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary on 10/23. The movie will be part of our anniversary celebration. It's been awhile since we've even gone to the theater to watch a movie together. Often, we go to watch something with the kids (actually, Jerry is the "fun" one (LOL), and he loves the movies that they love). But, this movie will be a date just for us.
One of my upcoming radio shows will surround marriage and intimacy, etc. Please feel free to read my blog/intro about it (if the coding doesn't come through, the url is www.blogtalkradio.com/passion4lif)e
I can't wait to see the movie. I love all of Tyler's work. His movies have become more polished and truly wonderful. I'm particularly proud of him because he's a native son of New Orleans.
I haven't seen this movie, but I've posted about it at my blog, with photographs of the cast. I'm in Brazil, so it'll be a while before this film is accessible here, but I can enjoy it vicariously every time one of you sees it and tells me how good it is!
It is really excellent that a positive Black movie about Blacks who are not killing each other has debuted at Number 1. Commercial success counts in America and we are showing that positive Blacks films are also commercially succesful films by the same standard that is used to measure other films.
Please Go and See "Why Did I Get Married" at the Movies!
Very good message to all Black men and a few tips for the black women to live by. Need to see it again since I missed a lot of the jokes due to the audience laughter. The audience did have some Boondocks moments with a brother talking on his cell phone and couple of ignorant brothers siding with some of the negative actions of of a character. (The scene with Jill Scott being...) I won't spoil the film so go see it.
Thaks for the shout :-)
Carla - Early returns on your anniversary. I think you will enjoy seeing this movie as part of your celebration. It is over-the-top ... but it delivers. Truly a funny movie. At the same time there are parts of the movie that will bring tears to your eyes. And the sistas in the theatre get some eye candy as well.
Francis - It should be out in some type of 'free online' version before long. Do you watch any of the TV series via the 'free episodes' now that they available to us days after the orginal is broadcast?
Cliff - Good lookin' out young bro! I didn't know that you visited our village! The sound system at the theatre we attended was so loud that we heard every line over the crowd noise. In fact, my mom had to take her hearing aid OUT OF HER EARS when the movie started (smile).
Invisible Woman - You earned it my sista!
I am a stan for anything Mr. Perry does so I am a little bias but he out did himself this go round. Man Oh Man, can not wait for the DVD.
78 - I agree that this is a movie that we'll need to purchase for our private DVD libraries! What was your favorite part of the movie?
