Worst Individual Moment in History of Sports: Asamoah Gyan Misses Last Second Penalty Kick for Ghana in World Cup [Video]

Team Ghana beat Team USA last week in the 2010 World Cup. One of the strongest players on the Ghana team is Asamoah Gyan. Team Ghana played 120 minutes of soccer against Team Uruguay ... and in the final seconds of the final minute a penalty was called and Asamoah had a free kick to win the game for his team.

See how it turned out:

Agony of Defeat ... I hope that we keep Asamoah Gyan in our prayers. He has to be feeling like the unluckiest guy on the face of the earth right now.

This game was watched by billions of people around the world. This game carried the hopes of the entire continent of Africa.

I think that this is now the worst individual moment in the history of sports.

I imagine that Nick Anderson, Bill Buckner or Mitch Williams know how Gyan feels.

Can you think of other individual moments in the history of sports that are worse than the one we saw today?

No, that one was pretty damned bad. But I also think that goalie for Ghana should have been slapped too, what with all the kicks he let get by him.

Lola - I do agree that the Ghana goalie looked suspect throughout the game. In the long run, I have to imagine that Ghana went further than anyone could have imagined. Most thought that they would beat by the USA last week.

Ghana had the youngest team of all 32 in the World Cup. They have time to recover in future World Cups...
