Pat Buchanan's War Against Sonia Sotomayor

One of our villagers recently commented about the virulent racism spewing from Pat Buchanan in the past week or so. We talked about Buchanan's racist streak last year. No doubt about it ... Buchanan is at it again as we listen to his never-ending race-baiting tirades against Judge Sonia Sotomayor:

I agree with Media Matters when they argue that MSNBC is making a mistake by having Pat Buchanan on the air to discuss any issue related to race. What say u?

The have him on because of who he is. They know that whatever his views are will further polarize this country when it comes to race matters.

For them, this is good. Good in that it gives them ratings. Especially right about now that they are dead last in the ratings.

Just like FOX, MSNBC is in the business of media manipulation for profit. They are both beholden to corporate interests and not intent on true journalism.

This is why I personally support independent media outlets. If you really want to get the scoop on pretty much anything that will truly change your worldview. One should start with LinkTV in my opinion.

Rippa lays it down: they have him MSNBC because they know he will will incite the right-wing to say, "Yeah yeah!" and the more progressives to say "You racist whit mutha...How could you." Villager, what's interesting about this is that the news maker is becoming the maker of the news. Instead of dealing with issues like Dafur where genocide is being committed, or Pakistan where we are bombing villages and killing children, MSNBC is intentionally ginning up division among Americans to keep people watching. That's why they are giving Dick Cheney, a guess whose views have proven to be untrue many times over.

By ginning up these negative characterizations, we're doing two things: the good things that have that day or that week. And we're emphasizing the negative (Cheney, Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Hannity, etal,).

That's why I only watch Olberman or Maddow. Otherwise, I watch channel 2, where they have real journalist like Gwen Ifill and Bill Moyers.

MSNBC has Buchanan just like CNN has Dobbs. They have to for the ratings and to at least appear to be "fair and balanced". But, folks like Buchanan, Dobbs, O'Reilly, Hannity, etc. are quickly becoming caracatures. They remind me of the chicken little story with all of the animals running around screaming that the sky is falling because chicken little was just too dumb or stupid to realize that a d*mn nut just hit him on the head.

He is a paid instigator. If every one thought like him than trust he would be a man loving liberal.

I have to agree with Rippa, Sjp and
McDaddy's comments on Buchanan. I watch Morning Joe and he often comes across as the last white male in America.

It is insane. He has always been racially insensitive, but now seems to have gone completely over the foam at the mouth edge of unbelievable bigotry. Why MSNBC lets him continue is beyond me.

RiPPa - I need to check out this LinkTV site. You've mentioned it to me before...

MacDaddy - I appreciate your candid analysis. I accept what you & RiPPa have said about Buchanan. He is simply race-based fodder to titilate the MSNBC audience. That's a shame...

Sojourners - Caracature is right. Have you viewed the LinkTV media site referred to earlier by RiPPA?

Mike - 'Man-loving liberal?!? :)

Lady D - I can hardly stand Morning Joe. I like their guests, however, the host... Joe Scarsborough ... is such a pompous a$$hole...

Jamie - MSNBC must be going for the lowest common denominator. That is a shame...
