No Public Option; No Re-Election; No Kidding

I'm self-employed. I don't have health insurance. I haven't had health insurance since I started my company back in 2002. It is important to me that the Democratic Party take advantage of their recent election success by passing health insurance reform ... that includes a robust public option. I am hopeful that Harry Reid (D-NV) and Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) are tough enough to get this done.

Do you think that a robust public option will be in the final bill that goes to President Obama for his signature later this year?

Villager,

I believe that this is the best way for the bill to go. It is not looking good for any Democrat who believes otherwise. I just voted as a member of Move On on what should happen to Dems who do not vote for this option. It will not be loking good for those individual politicans.

What sense does it make to be the majority party if you cannot do what the majority of votes elected you to do?

My brother, this is a major concern of mine. And honestly, I haven't blogged about it lately because just the thoughts in my head get me worked up.

There is still hope for the public option. However, I'm fearful that in compromise it's not going to be what we expect it to be. The proposed early on was nothing but other market for private insurance companies. And this is what Obama alluded to in his great speech before Congress several weeks ago.

Very few people paid attention to that but I did. I have to make a decision in the next week as to whether my family and I will have coverage next year. The premiums will be drastically increased and so too is our deductible.

Without a TRUE public option...

I'm afraid it will only get worse.

P.S. There's a petition on my sidebar on my page that is being compiled and sent to the White House. Check it out if you haven't already.

I would have rather had Medicare For All.

I had a situation because I changed jobs, I went a full year without health insurance coverage.

The Dems better be more afraid of the voters than they are of the health insurance companies.

@Villager

I keep hearing that there will be a Public Option but that it might be watered down a bit. I'm def hoping that the Dems will step up.

Lady D, Monie and Monica - I've seen the request for a vote on MoveOn.org. I haven't cast my vote yet. Hard for me to fight against Dems when there are so many wingnut Repubs out there ... however, I think that it will be a disaster if the Dems in power don't pass robust public option in this push for health care reform. I am hopeful that Obama will pull the rabbit out of the hat...

RiPPa - I'll head out to check out your online petition right now...
