Old School Friday: Love Jones

Old School Friday is a weekly meme that allows us to explore music from back in the day. The theme this week is Movie Soundtracks. My immediate thought when I learned of the theme was music from the movie, Love Jones. The two stars of the movie were Lorenz Tate and Nia Long. In fact, Nia Long has been in my Top 10 list of nubian queens ever since her role in this movie (and Lisa Nicole Carson ain't that far behind!). Here are two songs from the movie soundtrack that I thought you might enjoy. Check 'em out below...

Hopeless (Dionne Farris)

Sumthin' Sumthin' (Maxwell)

Of course, one of the most memorable moments in the movie came when Lorenz Tate broke it down in Brother to the Night! Do y'all remember this one?

I'm the blues in your left thing ... trying to become the funk in your right!

Hey Villager,

We choose the same movie soundtrack - LOL! I only posted Hopeless because it was my favorite followed by Brother To The Nite (didn't have time to post that one). Love, Love, Love me some "Love Jones."

Enjoy your weekend.

I love that movie!! and the song "Hopeless" was and is hot! And Lorenz Tate surely put it down with Brotha To The Night!
I'm not really a fan of Something, Something because it was sooo over played..

Oooooh..........guess what? I absolutely love me some Maxwell!!! I'm a late bloomer, however, when it comes to him. I didn't really "discover" his music until a few years ago, and I ended up buying what was then his "old" CD's. I have to admit, that Maxwell's music has gotten me through some difficult times as I would play the CD's and they would soothe me and put me in a trance-like state. It's hard to explain.

Anyway, I have never watched "Love Jones", but I do love and appreciate Nia Long. I can go back even further as for my admiration of her work. Talking about "old school" and "back in the day"........I wonder how many remember Nia's early work on the soap operas. Yep, I remember her on "The Guiding Light" (CBS) way back when. This was before "Boys in The Hood" and any movies.

So......this has all put me in a nostalgic mood. I'm on my way now to play my Maxwell CD's.

Thanks! Smile!

This movie was one of the first "dates" I went out on with my now husband. I remember sitting there next to him and being like, "That's totally US up there!" --and we're from Chicago too? Oh yeah!

Needless to say, we have three copies of the soundtrack. I bought one on my own, he bought two, one for him and one for me to remember the date by. That one remains unopened to this day!

Never saw “Love Jones,” but I’m adding it to my list to watch. Thanks!

I looked up on YouTube for other Dionne Farris songs and found "I Know," a familiar tune.

Have a great weekend!
