Sadly, I don't remember who introduced me to Gino Vanelli. He never truly hit the mainstream for jazz, R&B or any other genre. He was a unique talent that didn't fit neatly into any box we had labels for at the time. However, I used to enjoy listening to his stuff ... back then I was listening on an 8-track cartridge ... young 'uns have no idea what that was ... but, his music got to me. Here are two of my favorites from Gino Vanelli .... and I think villagers would be surprised to see this artist on my iPod!
'Ugly Man'
'Pauper in Paradise'

Gino Vanelli was the BOMB, Villager! And I'm not surprised at all. This guy had great pipes, and was very underappreciated. His career should have gone much further. I think I've still got one of his albums back at my mother's house in Denver that I just wore out. Remember "I Just Wanna Stop"?
Great choice!
Wayne I have never heard of this artist. What a wonderful sound.
Mine is up and people will be surprised (hint: I didn't put up any Reggae this week..lol)
Great pipes!
Happy OSF!
Very nice! I am loving the "Pauper In Paradise"
Yep, had no idea who this was so I am surprised. Great voice. Thanks for putting me on.
All - Thank you for supporting my OSF entry this week!
I remember this guy. Your picks are new to me but I remember "I Just Wanna Stop" and "Living Inside Myself" being big hits on the rock stations back in the day.
I never thought he got the props he deserved either. Maybe he didn't fit in because he had a jazz singer's voice with that easy rock sound behind him. I don't know. Great artist though.
What a great artist and great album ("A Pauper in Paradise"). "Black and Blue" is on heavy rotation on one of my iPod playlists. Great pick!
NOPE!!! I'm not surprised that you would have an "ear" for the one and only Gino! Great choice!!!
