Old School Friday: Jimi Hendrix

The theme for this week's Old School Friday meme is 'Best Guitar Solo'. I was given a guitar when I was about 8-years old as a birthday gift. I never had the talent to play it ... and the world is a better place for having never heard me play the guitar beyond those few months after my birthday.

On the other hand, the world is blessed to have heard the legendary guitar skills of Jimi Hendrix. I imagine that many of the entries this week will focus on Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix was a genius with his guitar and his wit and wisdom can never be denied. For now, villagers, I invite you to enjoy his performance of 'Red House' at Woodstock back in the day!

Hey Villager! I have to agree with Lil' Creole... "Jimi was a bad dude!" And he could play like no other. Many of the guitarists that I like today were Jimi fans and that's nothing to scoff at. Happy OSF.

Jimi Hendrix - probably the inspiration for most of the top guitarists alive today. Good choice and great song.

Ha Ha, so that I want post the same songs, I started going with my third choice, but I must admit Jimi was in my top 2.

That guy on the drums is really freaking me out!
Jimi is a one of a kind raw and rare talent! I never realized until now that he had earrings in his ears. That just wasn't done back then...at least I thought it wasn't!
Have a great weekend!

While I have never claimed to be a Hendrix fan, did could rip a guitar to pieces-he was great and there is no denying that!

Marcus - Evidently, he used to play the guitar with his teeth when he was truly motivated. I saw video of him playing 'Star Spangled Banner' with his teeth and was amazed...

Jimi! Jimi! Jimi! Play that thang!

I did Stanley Clark with George Duke and the Isley Brothers directly on my spot. Put a link to Luther Vandross doing Its All Over not only for the bass - but as a piece of advise for the Queen...HRC. Hope you get a chance to stop by.

It's an unfortunate thing that more people in our community don't rank Jimi higher than we often do, when it comes to our musical tastes.

Jimi Hendrix is the quintessential amplified blues-man... important to the deepest and funkiest tradition of the blues in America, but even MORE important in making sure that the electric blues became an inseparable part of American rock and roll.

Many of the greatest guitarists around, including Eric Clapton, Jack White, and Slash, are the direct musical descendants of Jimi Hendrix.

Danielle - Asante sana for your visits whenever you have the time to do so. Being an 'OV' has its privleges (smile)...

Gunfighter - I admit that I didn't know much about him. I guess because I associate him mostly with Rock'n'Roll as opposed to Blues. In looking for his music this week I learned that he truly was a gifted musician. Your insights further that learning for me. Have you considered participating in the Old School Friday meme on your blog?
