Barack & Curtis: Manhood, Power & Respect
Have you seen this short documentary film examining the contrasting styles of manhood exhibited by Barack Obama and Curtis Jackson, aka 50 Cent?
I just saw this over at the blog, The Sauda Voice....a sista is overseas and she is keeping up with what is happening in the good ole U.S.A.!!
Thanks for mentioning this.
A few months ago, I wrote a post about the definition of black masculinity and it's impact on black women.
I believe we need to think about HOW we are being taught to define and assess masculinity. The more barbaric a man is with his thinking and actions, the MORE "manly" he is?! That pathology needs to be eradicated!
I viewed this video last weekend and I have been recommending it to everyone who has internet access.
It is an interesting piece of work. One that raises some points that I did not expect. And I have to admit that I was skeptical about how the topic was going to be worked out. But I think for the actual amount of time that this video runs, a lot of points are raised that are worth thinking about and discussing.
Lady D - I agree with you. This is one of the more thoughtful things that I've ever seen on YouTube. I hope that they are right. I hope that more Black men (and boys) will look to Barack and the way he handles himself as an example ... rather than the example set by 50 Cents...

Peace, blessings and DUNAMIS!

Lisa - Perhaps Barack, Michelle and their two children will go a long ways towards re-focusing the definition of a "Black Family" as well...
What is the URL to your post on Black masculinity impact on Black women?
