Has George Bush Done Anything Right as President?

Villagers, can you name anything right done by President George W. Bush? He is definitely the worst US president in my lifetime ... and he may be one of the worst in our nation's history. However, I'm reminded that even a stopped clock is right twice a day. So, I'm trying to figure out if there is anything that George W. Bush has done in the past 8 years for which we, as Americans, can be proud.

The only thing that I can come up with is the efforts on the behalf of the Bush Administration in support of dealing with the HIV/AIDS problem ... primarily in Africa.

I imagine that there is some other things that he has done for which America can be proud. Perhaps you can help me. What has George W. Bush done right as our president in your opinion?

Yes, to his credit, President Bush has done a decent job where HIV/AIDS is concerned, especially in Africa where he has given a lot of aid. The problem for me is that President Bush has set the bar so low, that people actually look at John McCain as a viable alternative, even though the guy has no grasp on the economic issues that confront the country. President Bush, for what it is worth, stuck to his word, no matter how misguided and economically unsound it was. He was resolute, in the face of defeat. Other than that, I think he will go down in history as one of the worst presidents in American history, having literally plundered this country's financial resources. He has beaten even his father at being a horrible president.

Hi Villager,

Wow, I'm scratching my head...I give up.

Villager,

Janet Shan said it as completely as I ever could have. Bush's work to fight AIDS in Africa is perhaps one of the great untold stories of his administration. Barely reported and barely paid attention to, his efforts have actually been very strong and have received considerable praise from unlikely areas. But props earned are props deserved.

And that, as Janet says, is his only prop. I am proud to see him get the h--- out of office.

Janet, MDC and Keith - It is our fault ... we knew he was a jerk after the first four years and we re-elected him. At least we didn't do that for his father. However, it is a shame that your only claim to fame is relatively unknown (AIDS initiative in Africa) and your only redeeming characteristic is pigheaded stubborness...

But, perhaps other villagers will have other ideas for us...

Villager, did you forget to add "mission accomplished"? Oh, never mind - he wasn't right on that either...

I would actually give Dubya a tip o' the hat for going after Afghanistan immediately after 9/11. But when he (1) didn't finish the job and (2) shifted his attention to Iraq, I had to deduct the few cool points he earned with me.

But at least he's kept me entertained during his 8 years. I don't think we'll have a funnier prez than Dubya grace the halls of the White House ever again.

I give him credit for going to Afghanistan but that right there led to so many misteps he only gets a half a point.

Sojourner - It has been over 1970 days since "Mission Accomplished" was proclaimed by President Bush. I wonder if he regrets the theatrics of that day?

Unmitigated Word & Mike - Getting into Afghanistan is only a good idea if you do the job. We're still in Afghanistan ... what is the good in that?
