Police Arrest Jessie Dotson as the Lester Street Murderer

Police announced today that 33 year-old Jessie Dotson will be charged with six counts of first degree murder and three counts of attempted first degree murder. The police say that the Lester Street Massacre was the result of a family argument between two brothers that turned deadly.

As we shared with you earlier, Jessie Dotson just got out of prison January 26th, after serving time for second degree murder. Police say Jessie Dotson shot and killed his brother Sunday, March 2nd, after an argument, and then shot the three other adults in the home. He also stabbed the five children. Three of the children survived and are being treated at Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center.

It appears that the MS-13 gang didn't do this crime. Just a punk brother and uncle. How do you lose your mind to the point that you stab five children resulting in death to two of the toddlers? Could this really be about a leather coat?

Anyhow, Villagers, this is a good day to reach out to your brothers, sisters, uncles and aunts and let them know that you love them unconditionally. We need to repair our family units and connections so that atrocities such as the Lester Street Massacre have shown us this week.

Holy cow. Look, when are we going to acknowledge and deal with the elephant in the room - that murder at the hands of our own sons and brothers is the biggest threat to our own extinction?

It's time to address the violence with more than just marches and speeches. I just wish I knew what the answer was.

Man, oh man...how does one lose his mind to the extent of killing the children so they can't identify him?

This is almost incomprehensible to me...maybe it's because I have a conscious and know right from wrong?

I also have to agree with Rashawn...when a murder happens because of an argument over a leather coat (or something else inane), there are a multitude of problems that need to be addressed, that no amount of marches and speeches can solve.

A lack of family connections and a lack of decent education are the roots of so many problems in this world.

Rashawn, Marvalus & Woozie - It begins with us. We have to ensure that we handle our business with our sons, daughters, sisters, brothers and cousins. Personally, I think it continues with ensuring that Barack is elected to give our sons a non-sports, non-pimp, non-gangster role model...

This is so sad and frustrating. How do you kill your own family & siblings, I had this same question about the older brother who shot Juvenile's daughter.
What can snap in your brain and make you want to hurt people especially children in your own family??

I haven't watched TV all weekend so this is the first I'm hearing of this. This makes me feel sick to the core. The death penalty is too good for this man. Who does something like this? He has to be mentally insane.

He HAS to be insane. I'm having a hard time accepting this any other way...He's still responsible for what he's done, but surely he is not is his right mind to do this...and neither is anyone else who does this kind of thing.

Regina, Los Angelista & DN Lee - Is it insanity or is it simply a lack of a conscience? Evidently, Jessie Dotson has killed before and spent decades in prison for it. Did he go insane or did he simply lose his humanity?

What is so sad to me is that we as a people have lost our deep love for each other. Once upon a time our peeps would not do this kind of thing.

We could tell by a crime if they were of AA are not. We can't do that now because we are doing some of the same ill things. When did this come into our community? What cause this shift in us?

JJ - I don't have the answer to your question. We need to find our right minds again. We need to go back to the basics of valuing the family unit...
