Help Free Jamie and Gladys Scott

I invite all villagers to take a few seconds to sign this petition on behalf of these two innocent sisters, Gladys and Jamie Scott.

On December 24, 1993, Scott County Sheriff's Department arrested two sisters, Jamie and Gladys Scott for armed robbery. Jamie and Gladys Scott were each sentenced to double life terms in prison in October 1994.
  • Neither sister had prior convictions
  • Neither sister had prior arrests
  • Neither sister had a criminal history
  • Allegedly $11 was stolen
  • No one was injured
  • No one was murdered
Here is the kicker -- three young Black men confessed to the robbery. These three hoodlums linked Jamie and Gladys to the crime. These three miscreants received a light sentence of 10 months in exchange for their plea bargain.

I appreciate the time you will take to look into this. It doesn't matter whether you think that they are innocent or guilty ... the injustice is that the crime does not warrant the amount of prison time given to these two young Black women. At some point we MUST stand up for justice. This happens far too often and we have the POWER to do something about it.

Hi Wayne,

I think I saw something about this case some time ago. I will take a closer look at it.

I do want to make one point though.

It DOES matter whether the person is accused of a crime that he/she has committed.

Often, black people at different blogs are treating the completely GUILTY in the same way as the totally innocent.

No.

The racist and classist criminal justice system does not mean we all turn a blind eye to trifling negroes who are committing crimes against our people and then the book is thrown at them on their day in court.

I was in a counseling session with a room full of black male rapists (ex-cons) and all they wanted to discuss was the fact that they had harsher sentences than whites for the same crimes.

No discussion on the lives they destroyed!! Their focus was on criminal system injustices.

If these women didn't even commit the crime at all and they are being wrongfully charged, THEN that is one issue.

If these women DID commit the crime then it is irrelevant whether it was $10 or $100. It is still an armed robbery.

I hear black folks saying, "oh it doesn't matter if the person committed a crime or not, the issue is the type of sentence they received".

Anyone who commits a crime makes a choice to be in the criminal system and by now, all black people are aware that the system is racist and classist. They chose to commit a crime anyway? Well then they are on their own.

I am not saying this about the Scott sisters since I don't know the details of their case.

Peace, blessings and DUNAMIS!

Lisa - If these young ladies were involved in stealing $11 ... then they should be punished. I'm fairly certain that the penalty shouldn't be life in prison. I don't have a question about a person being held accountable for their actions. I do question justice that is blind to commonsense...
