men and women are not similar in lot of aspects. instead of howling about equality let their pay be linked to work done. if a woman equals a man in her work let her get the equal pay. otherwise. . .
will a man get paternity pay and leave?

Faheem - The whole point of the legislation is that woman DOING EQUAL WORK are *NOT* getting equal pay.

And the federal law allows for fathers to take leave for birth of their child.

Its about time.

In this country the disparity in pay for women and in effect the absence of concessions for working mothers has lagged behind for too long.

As a society we rank almost at the bottom when it comes to stuff like this. Everything begins with the woman, and the sooner we get to the point of recognizing this, the better off we'll be as a whole.

Read or watch the documentary "The Motherhood Manifesto" to understand just how this has worked against us.

RiPPa - I hadn't heard of the Motherhood Manifesto. I've added it to my growing list of stuff to do ... however, I made call to my representative (house and senate) today!

Mike - Wouldn't surprise me if this legislation was queued up in anticipation of Hillary being the nominee and victor in the 2008 elections (smile)...

So we need a law to say we're equal. Oh well the more things change the more they stay the same. It will be very interesting to see how Lt. Dan votes on this. WOW!! Its been weeks since I've said that name! LOL

Sojourner - I think that we've learned from the Civil Rights Act ... than even having a law on the books won't change the heart or soul of a bigot, racist or sexist...
